Uh... yeah~ My folks came home tonight and call to my brother and I... "If you want supper, get in the car!" Tonight, of course being "Pool Night," that means going to some bar. That's okay dispite the smoke, Mickey's Pool Hall really isn't so bad. Unfortunately, the video game/ quater-eating/ touch-screen entertainment thingie that Isaiah (8yr old brother) and I play golf and other various things on, was broken and thus removed from the building. How sad we were...
And thus, this was born on the back of a paper placemat... with a mechanical pencil that I happened to find in my coat pocket, a pen from some other lady's purse, and a TALL glass of Pepsi. All whilst listening to some one-man band playing oldie rock songs on an acoustic guitar... ( ...he actually wasn't that bad... ) And what did Izzy do? He amused himself by doodling hedgehogs on his own piece of paper when I finally relinquished my pencil.
You draw the awesomest things in the randomest places, y'know that? >_<
I find it very impressive you drew, inked, and shaded this on a paper placemat in a single sitting at a bar.
Although a soda induced sugar-high can make one do amazing things...
But down to the nitty-gritty critiques. What really jumps out at me as being outstanding in this is the attention to detail. Which is amazing considering it's technically a glorified doodle right? Particularly with the feathers around the chest and neck. You didn't just scribble some in or add two or three clumps of drawn out feathers with a jagged/furry looking outline, you actually took the time to draw the whole thing as it should. And then the shading makes it killer.
I think it's also 'cuz I love black and white sketches

From cookies to soda? Am I sensing a sugar fiend here?
Bow down to the almighty sugar and its power to sustain! Huzzah!!
I joke, I joke. Nice work that you have here. I love how you kept it as a black and white sketch. This is amazing work. It is always fun to see what trying to fill empty time can create.
A very nice and phenomenal demonstration of traditional work which not only shown the vast improvements you've made within your pencil work, but the representation of your character in general.
The shading on this piece is something that is almost hypnotic and portrays just how much improvement your making towards your work. The fine levels of lighting around his talons and wings, not to mention fur is phenomenally detailed presenting with that mystical appeal.
When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.

I really like the pose of the head/neck, it's a bit complicated to draw it in that bending down/looking up from the side- way
good job!
